Towards a United AIADMK: What Prompted EPS to Act With Urgency?
Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, Edappadi K Palanisami, has made a decisive contribution to the merger negotiations between the two main factions of All India Anna DMK (AIADMK).
Negotiations have reopened or re-opened because of compulsions, and there are a number of assumptions about what pushed the EPS camp into the hands of the PAHO faction.
Those who are close to the former CM O Panneerselvam (OPS) say that the olive branch is extended by CM EK Palanisamy (EPS) by bowing to the two main conditions for the talks – a judicial inquiry into the death of Jayalalithaa And the conversion of his Home Garden Poes into a memorial I confirm what the relationship between AIDMK and Sasikala and his family would be like going forward.
The help of Maopoi K Pandiarajan of PAHO warmly welcomed the announcement of the EPS camp, saying it paves the way for a united AIDMK and was a victory for OPS “dharma yuddh”. Others, however, were more cautious. One MP said that PAHO still had to decide whether these two steps were enough to begin discussions.
But more importantly, where the entire fray leaves TTV Dinakaran, who held a massive rally near Madurai last week. How much can he trust the MPs who attended his rally? These are the issues in the minds of the first drivers in these merger talks.
“Now OPS has to decide if he wants to take the Pandiarajan line – that all requests have been met – or the Munusamy line – that the main request to throw Sasikala has not been met.
A clear picture of the merger will only appear after OPS makes that decision, “said Frontline Associate Editor R K Radhakrishnan.
While CM Palaniswami himself did not make statements against the Sasikala family, the other ministers said they had decided to expel both Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran from their party.
They said this was decided last week, when the party passed a resolution to drop TTV from his post and invalidate all the shares by him on behalf of the party.
“This is Edappadi acting at a time when it is absolutely necessary to act. Remember that this CM did not discuss suspicions about the death of former CM Jayalalithaa in the Assembly and Resolutely opposed to any suggestion to make an inquiry.
This move, as well as the move to make Jayalalithaa’s home a memorial, is political and is guided by realpolitik over the past few weeks, “Radhakrishnan said.
So, did TTV hold an extremely successful rally that sent both OPS and EPS concerned? Or were there other constraints? Remember, they both met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi two days ago.
‘MaFoi’ refuted suggestions that Thursday’s ads had something with the popularity of TTV, or the hand of the BJP. “Thirteen of the 19 MPs who attended the TTV rally returned to the EPS camp.
There is no BJP role either. Even the resolution acts indirectly against Sasikala. The discussion should now be about the structure and vision of the party, “he told News18.
